Unbelieveable

We have had an unbelievable weather year. Unfortunately I lost my camera a few weeks back so now only have my phone to document it with. We had a snow storm last Saturday that left us with a foot of heavy, wet, snow. Our trees are still full of leaves (though some were lost during Hurricane Irene) and so we now have downed limbs and trees all over our roads and power lines. Our power went out late Saturday night, and didn't come back on until Thursday night.

The kids pretty much missed Halloween. We had to cancel the fall festival that was scheduled for Saturday night, Sunday church was cancelled - no power at church (or anywhere else in town really), on Monday night we went trick or treating in a neighborhood with underground lines, but they didn't have power so didn't open doors unless they had generators to heat the houses with, we only stopped at about 6 or 7 houses. No one else was out, all the streets were dark - creepy.

Roads all over the place look like this photo that I took with my phone on a road near our home. Believe it or not, we drove under it and kept going. I took this today! It's been 5 full days and there is still so much clean up to do.

The kids missed 2 days of school from Irene and now are up to 6 just from this storm. School was cancelled all this week, plus Monday, with Tuesday off for voting, and Wednesday questionable at this point. That's 8 days to make up during the year or in June and it's not even January yet! UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Although we now have power, so many of our friends and family still don't - it's a disaster. I've never seen anything like this. Makes me so grateful for all the conveniences of modern life, prophetic counsel to have food and cash and water at hand, friendly church members and friends and just the gospel in general to comfort and strengthen... Any friends out there that need showers, laundry or heat - COME ON OVER!
